A name taken from home
Nokhbat Al Deera is a Saudi brand of fresh, chilled chicken. We chose a name that sounds like the people of this land, and drew our bag from their mud-brick houses and palm trees. Everything you read on this page, we can back up.
What the name means
Every Najdi knows the word Deera. It's the town you belong to, the house you come back to however far the road takes you. Nokhba means the pick of something, the portion you set before a guest before you serve yourself. Put the two together and you have exactly what we're after: the best of home, on your table. It's a big name. We know that, which is why we take it seriously.
The Najd we know
In Najd the afternoon arrives as gold light on mud walls, with the stepped crenellations along the rooftops standing out like a crown. Inside there's a majlis, a dallah warming on the coals, and a plate of dates that never runs empty while there's a guest in the house. That picture gave us our colours: brick red, sand beige, the gold of dry palm fronds. It's the Deera as we love it, and we wanted you to see it on our bag.
How we work
Here the facts do the talking. Our slaughter is halal, done the Islamic way; each bird is then packed and kept chilled between 0 and 4 °C until it reaches the shelf. Whole birds come in eight sizes, from 700 to 1400 g, and there are six cuts: breast, breast fillet, thighs, drumsticks, wings and liver. We are an officially licensed establishment, License No. 20/01/101021/010, Commercial Registration No. 7055041540.
The story on the bag
Our bag carries a band of triangles taken from Sadu, the weaving that dressed Bedouin tents and majlis cushions. Above it sit a mud-brick village and palm trees: the Deera the name comes from. At the centre is the rooster, first awake in the village and first to announce the day. Every drawing on the bag is there for a reason, and they all say the same thing: this is from here.
